Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
